UT San Diego: Navy tries new tactics on sex assault
UT San Diego reports:
No alcohol after 10 p.m. at base stores, and you’ll have to walk to the back to find it at all. Published results of sexual assault trials on Navy and Marine Corps websites. At least 50 more Navy cops trained in sex crimes and forensics.
The Navy announced a slate of new policies Thursday in a continuing campaign to address the rising number of sexual assault cases across the U.S. military. Also Thursday, the Air Force said it will kick out airmen who commit sexual assault.
Those announcements came the same day the Pentagon’s top leaders told a Senate committee that unit commanders should retain the decision-making power on when to prosecute.
That issue is being hotly contested in Congress as women come forward with horror stories of being disregarded or mistreated by superiors upon reporting their attackers.
