Poughkeepsie Journal Editorial: Sexual assaults in military must be addressed

A Poughkeepsie Journal editorial writes:

Under the bipartisan effort called the Military Justice Improvement Act, many offenses, including directly disobeying an order or going AWOL, would still be handled under the chain of command, as they should be.

But criminal offenses such as assault and rape would be prosecuted by the military’s own judicial system.

It should be noted that both military women and men have been victims of these crimes and have derided the closed nature of the military system as a hindrance to bringing the offenders to justice.
