Politico: Gary Patton out in DOD sexual assault post
Politico reports:
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who is leading the push to reform Pentagon sexual assault policies, said she looked forward to meeting Snow “to discuss his views and vision for strengthening this important office.” But she also raised alarm over the timing of Patton’s departure.
“There are serious questions about Gen. Patton’s conduct involving blocking an independent investigation, so I am concerned this decision is more about avoiding getting to the bottom of what happened in that case,” she said.
Joe Newman, a spokesman at the Project on Government Oversight, welcomed the change. Last month, his group had urged Hagel to fire Patton over a DoD inspector general’s report that determined Patton and Caldwell had “violated the law by restricting subordinates from communicating with a DOD IG investigation team.”
