If you were assaulted by a civilian, federal employee, state employee, or otherwise not a member of the U.S military at the time of the assault

We know how difficult reaching out for help can be, and we want to take a moment to acknowledge all you have been through and what you are seeking to do given what you have experienced.

While we are so glad that you are on your journey towards finding supportive services, our organizational purview is limited to assisting criminal cases involving sexual assault and sexual harassment within the military justice system. In order to potentially qualify for assistance from our program, your assailant must be subject to the jurisdiction of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). We are not able to assist:

  • If your assailant is separated from the military (does not include retired veterans who were active-duty at the time of the assault).
  • If your assailant was a civilian and/or a veteran at the time of the assault.
  • If your assailant was NOT on active-duty at the time of the assault (i.e. Title X orders for National Guard or Reservists).
  • If your assailant is a federal or state employee or otherwise not a member of the U.S. military.

In case it might be helpful to you, we would encourage you to utilize the Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime’s Directory of Crime Victim Services. It is an immense database that allows users to search for services by location, type of victimization, and service provided. Additionally, the National Crime Victim Law Institute’s Victim Resource Database  is a tool for individuals seeking agencies and organizations that provide aid, information and support directly to victims of crime.

Please know that we take your experience seriously and regret that we are not able to offer direct help. In case it may be helpful to you, you are welcome to visit the Survivor Support Network, which we have set up to help survivors locate services including counseling, support groups, and legal services.

At POD we are engaged in an ongoing struggle to reform the broken military justice system. If you would like to be kept up to date on our progress, you can do so through signing up for our newsletter. You may also wish to share your story on our website.
