Fight, Kirsten, fight
The New York Daily News reports:
In turning thumbs down on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s push to reform how the military handles sexual assault complaints, the U.S. Senate let stand a system that betrays thousands of victimized women and men every year.
Gillibrand’s bill got 55 votes, five short of the 60 needed to move forward with a measure that would have removed sex assault investigations from the chain of command and placed them with an independent authority, where they belong.
The 45 senators, including 11 fellow Democrats, who blocked Gillibrand’s hard-fought measure, shrugged off damning evidence the military cannot be trusted to deal with sex-related misconduct cases.
