Military Culture and Sexual Assault

The 49-year-old victim came forward and reported the assault. Instead of seeing the man who assaulted her punished, she saw Lt. Gen. Craig Franklin, the commanding officer, throw out the jury’s conviction, cancel the one-year prison sentence and reinstate Wilkerson in the Air Force with full rank. In a word, the commander of the 3rd Air Force condoned the assault.
