Politico: DOD rolls out new sexual assault policies
Politico reports:
Taryn Meeks, executive director of the victim advocacy group Protect our Defenders, questioned the Pentagon’s motivations for the new policies, saying in an interview that it only seems to move on the sexual assault issue when cornered by Congress.
“Any steps the military is taking to bring justice to victims, to hold offenders accountable, is good,” she said. “But these changes appear to result from political pressures of the day. So they’re reactionary as opposed to something the military has taken the lead on. This could be an attempt to prevent fundamental change or real reform, which is of course what we believe needs to occur.”
