Politico: Winnefeld’s chain of command takedown – Hagel to announce new military sexual assault directives

Winnefeld said last night that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel would ‘soon’ announce a half dozen new executive actions to combat military sexual assault.
“One of them is that all unrestricted reports must be accelerated quickly to the first flag or general officer in the chain of command,” Winnefeld said. “So there will be an additional level of supervision to ensure that every case is handled properly.”
“I would say that with the ability to report outside the chain of command, with the guarantee that report if it’s unrestricted will be investigated by military law enforcement and with senior officer overwatch, we are closing any loopholes that the very few commanders who don’t get it could find in avoiding holding people accountable,” he said.
