PROTECT OUR DEFENDERS JOINS “BLOOD STRIPE” FILMMAKERS FOR SCREENING AND Q&A ON THE EXPERIENCE OF FEMALE SERVICEMEMBERS
Los Angeles, CA – On Saturday, October 14th, Col Don Christensen, former Chief Prosecutor of the United States Air Force and President of Protect Our Defenders, will join a Q&A panel with the creators of “Blood Stripe,” a new film that explores the experience of female combat servicemembers. Ryan Guilds, an attorney and winner of Protect Our Defenders’ 2017 Justice Award, will join the same Q&A panel on Sunday October 15th, after a screening of the film.
“Blood Stripe” follows a female Sergeant who returns home to a small town, after a third tour with the Marines in Afghanistan. The film deals with issues surrounding PTSD and paints a portrait of trauma and the cost of war to the individual and society.
The Got Your 6 certified film received the U.S. Best Fiction Feature Film Award at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival. Additional accolades include: The Audience Award at the 2016 Austin Film Festival, The John Schlesinger Award for First-Time Filmmaker at the 2016 Provincetown International Film Festival, and both the Audience Award and the Indie Vision Breakthrough Performance Award at the 2016 Twin Cities Film Festival.
Protect Our Defenders (POD) is the only national organization solely dedicated to ending the epidemic of rape and sexual assault in the military and to combating a culture of pervasive misogyny, sexual harassment and retribution against victims. A recent Washington Post investigative report about an Air Force colonel’s disturbing and aggressive sexual harassment of a female subordinate, which was then covered up by the military, is just the latest example of the military’s egregious attitude toward sexual assault and why POD’s work is critical.
