San Antonio Express-News: AF general was warned not to toss conviction
The San Antonio Express-News reports:
Franklin’s personal advocacy on Wilkerson’s behalf and the warning, from Brig. Gen. Scott Zobrist, emerged in several email exchanges released last week by the Air Force and posted online. The victim in the sexual-assault case had requested the messages in May under the Freedom of Information Act.
The request languished until Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and the victim advocacy group Protect Our Defenders inquired about the delay in August.
The Air Force declined Tuesday to comment on the messages, which offer a private glimpse into how top military officials underestimated the public furor the case was to ignite.
