San Antonio Express-News wins national reporting award for ‘Twice Betrayed’ series
A big congratulations to the San Antonio Express-News:
The San Antonio Express-News won the American Bar Association’s 2014 Silver Gavel Award for Newspapers for its in-depth coverage of sexual assaults in the military in the series “Twice Betrayed.”
The three-part investigative series, published last May, was a seven-month project that revealed how the military rarely punished troops accused of sexual assault — but penalized victims.
“This was a story with local roots and great national significance that our reporters and photographers aggressively pursued,” said Express-News Editor and Senior Vice President Michael Leary. “It’s the sort of public-interest reporting that we emphasize at the Express-News, and it makes us all proud that this work has been honored with such a prestigious award.”
