SF Gate: Time to march on military rape

It’s a sad commentary that President Obama needed to underscore the problem of sexual assault in the military rather than extol the fine tradition of the U.S. Navy in his commencement speech last Friday for the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2013. After decades of sexual scandal in the military (Tailhook in 1991, Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1996, the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2003 and the assaults on trainees most recently at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland), it’s past time to take notice.
