Wall Street Journal: Air Force General Who Overturned Sex-Assault Ruling to Retire
Aviano victim Kim Hanks and Protect Our Defenders is featured in this article from the Wall Street Journal:
Kim Hanks, the woman who had accused Col. Wilkerson of assaulting her, criticized Gen. Franklin and the military’s handling of the case.
“Franklin’s reckless disregard for the safety of those who worked and served at Aviano is typical of the military’s extremely biased and broken justice system,” she said in a statement Wednesday.
Protect our Defenders, an advocacy group that has worked with Ms. Hanks, said the military leadership had protected Gen. Franklin too long and that he was an example of the bias in the military-justice system.
Air Force officials praised Gen. Franklin for his service, even as they said they understood why he had requested retirement. Officials said that Gen. Franklin decided to retire on his own.
